Imagine growing up in Sweden and watching Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby from afar. Then, at just 19, not only getting to play against him in the NHL, but was also being tasked with shutting him down.
That’s exactly what happened to Anton Frondell on Tuesday night. The Chicago Blackhawks’ talented rookie center was put on the ice to shadow the future Hall of Famer. Frondell did more than just hold his own against the legendary center, and he will remember the experience for the rest of his life.
“It was a fun experience,” he said after today’s morning skate. “Growing up, he was my idol; someone I loved to watch. Facing him and looking him in the eyes before the faceoff wasn’t something I thought would be possible a couple of years ago. It was a cool moment for me. He has a lot of history and has played for a long time, so it’s fun to play against him.”
