LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson said that he briefly panicked when quarterback Caleb Williams unleashed a pass over the middle to receiver Maurice Alexander during the second team period of practice on Saturday.
“We were in a two-man (coverage) so I was trailing my guy,” Johnson said, “and I didn’t see him, so I’m just like, ‘Damn, I’m left by myself.’ Then I looked and he went and got an interception and I’m like, ‘OK, go make a play then.’”
Safety Coby Bryant would be “him.”
And what he did should be celebrated by Johnson and the rest of the defense.
After two days of seeing Williams and the offense put up highlight-reel plays, the Bears defense struck back on a soggy day at Halas Hall.
Bryant delivered the best highlight. He showed off his range and speed to intercept Williams’ deep pass to Alexander over the middle.
