With Bears quarterback Caleb Williams sidelined for a second straight game Sunday, Ben Johnson’s latest troll job included putting both Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum on the field on the first play against the Jets.
Why not elevate Miller Moss from the practice squad and get him involved too? Missed opportunity, in my opinion.
Here are my “10 Bears Things” following a dominant 23-12 win over the New York Jets:
1. The year is 2026 and the Chicago Bears are spoiled at quarterback.
While Bears fans continue to have an unprecedented debate about the second- and third-string quarterbacks, the performances of Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum over the last two weeks have allowed the Bears to bide their time while Caleb Williams’ hamstring heals.
After two weeks of gamesmanship and not ruling Williams out until later in the week, Bears head coach Ben Johnson went ahead and announced Bagent as his starter in Green Bay, while also saying Williams won’t practice this week. That means the earliest Williams will return to the practice field is Wednesday, Oct. 14, which is 25 days after suffering the injury in a Week 2 loss against the Vikings.
Perhaps that raises questions about how quickly Williams is recovering, but the initial reporting on the injury and subsequent (ridiculous) attack on the quarterback’s toughness didn’t do him any favors. The reality is that Williams has a Grade 2 hamstring tear, which is no joke.
Whenever he returns – and the fact they didn’t put him on injured reserve suggests Week 6 in Atlanta or Week 7 against New England is possible – the Bears need Caleb Williams to be Caleb Williams.
