The Chicago Blackhawks finally found their template for success over the weekend. For the first time this season, they played with an aggressive shoot-first mentality and were engaged physically. Unfortunately, they blew a late third-period lead and lost in overtime to the Boston Bruins.
“I thought we played really well,” Frank Nazar said of the effort. “We were hard on puck, physical, and making plays quickly out of our zone. We had plenty of chances.”
Nazar said they were outworking the Bruins, which allowed their skill to take over the game. However, he couldn’t quite put his thumb on why the Blackhawks haven’t consistently played that way.
“I don’t think it’s from a lack of intent,” he admitted. “Everybody here wants to be great and to go out and play well. I think there are just sometimes when frustration kicks in, but we need to continue to stick to our game.”
Head coach Jeff Blashill felt the same way many fans did. While he was happy to see his team play the way he’s been looking for all season, he was still upset by the result.
