As the Chicago Bears continue to retool their roster, it was announced on Wednesday that the team signed defensive tackle Andrew Brown from the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad.
Brown entered the league in 2018 when he was drafted in the fifth round by the Cincinnati Bengals. Brown suffered an injury during the preseason, failed to make the final roster and spent his rookie year on the Bengals’ practice squad. The following season, Brown played in 14 games with one start where he had 14 total tackles and two quarterback hits.
In 2020, Brown split time between the active roster and the practice squad in Cincinnati. After going back to the practice squad in 2020, Brown was scooped up by the Houston Texans midway through the season where he appeared in three games and only notched one tackle.
His journey continued in 2021 when he was claimed by the Indianapolis Colts. There he worked with Bears head coach Matt Eberflus. Failing to make the Colts’ final roster, Brown spent a week on the practice squad before being released. He then went to the Titans’ practice squad for a week before being let go.
Brown then signed with the Chargers, where he was able to stick around. Still, production was hard to come by as the defensive tackle had just one tackle in three games in Los Angeles.
Brown was one of the Chargers’ final cuts in August, which is when he signed to the Cardinals’ practice squad where he remained until signing with the Bears.
Brown’s 14 tackles during his rookie season is a career-high, as he’s failed to have more than three any other season.
An interesting fact about Brown is that he won the Gatorade National Player of the Year as a high school senior and was a top-10 overall recruit in the country.
After failing to make an impact at the professional level, Brown will have five games as a Bear to make a positive impression before entering the offseason. With a Bears’ front that has struggled to make plays, Brown should get his chances.
