Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach made it clear from the NFL Scouting Combine that keeping Smith was a top priority for the club, telling reporters:
"[Smith’s] obviously at the top of the list. We’ve already had some good dialogue with him. We’ll certainly do what we can and feel pretty optimistic about our possibilities there."
