The Chicago Blackhawks snapped their four-game losing streak with a big 5-2 over the Colorado Avalanche, who had won their previous five games. The key to victory was the Blackhawks playing a structured game and sticking to it until the final horn.
The action-packed first period saw five combined goals. Philipp Kurashev opened the scoring with a power-play goal, but it was answered quickly by Casey Middlestadt, who has seven points in his last three games. Lukas Reichel was credited with his first goal of the season less than a minute later as a Craig Smith shot hit him on its way to the back of the net.
