Monday Morning Cubs Thoughts

Happy Monday, everyone.

After a week off due to Labor Day last Monday, we are back with another set of Monday morning thoughts. Because the Cubs are 24 games under .500 with 22 games remaining, there's not a whole lot of game-level stuff to worry about outside of seeing the continued development of a lot of the youngsters on the team.

Today's thoughts, then, are going to focus mostly on this offseason and the storylines for the Cubs in 2023. That's a year when they hope to be much more competitive than they've been this season. That's a year when offseason additions and jumps from the young guys might actually push them to being much more competitive than they've been this season.

So as we get closer to a very important offseason in this rebuild, that's what we should be talking about. And that's where these thoughts from yours truly are centered on.

Let's get into it. Here are some Cubs thoughts for Monday morning.

Happy Monday and happy last week of August, folks.

The Cubs are headed up north to take on the Blue Jays, and they're leaving a couple of starters behind. Later in the week, they'll head to St. Louis with a couple of extra faces when rosters expand, and I'm sure there will be plenty of speculation over the next few days as to who might take up those spots.

It should be an eventful week with at least a couple of players making their MLB debuts, plus it'll be the last time Cubs fans have to see Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina playing in Cardinals jerseys on their TV screens. But first, we have to talk about what's happening in Toronto.

So let's get into it. Here's the first international edition of the Monday morning Cubs thoughts.

It's Monday morning, folks, so that means we're back with a new set of Cubs thoughts.

The Cubs still haven't lost a series since dropping all three in St. Louis to start the month, and they now welcome those same Cardinals to Wrigley Field for a five-game set before heading up to Milwaukee for three over the weekend.

It's one of those weeks where the Cubs will go up agains the class of the National League Central. Yes, they're pretty far out of the playoff picture, but these next eight games will be helpful in seeing how they stack up with their biggest rivals. And beyond that, these next few weeks will also be important in seeing if one of their most important rotation pieces will be able to help again this season. We've got just over six weeks left in the season, and I have some thoughts on how the rest of the year plus the offseason could play out.

So, let's get right into it. Here are your newest Cubs thoughts for Monday morning.

Happy Monday, friends.

What a week (and, really, what a month) it was. There's a whole lot to get into this Monday, and of course, I'll be starting things off with the Field of Dreams game. That was an awesome event that made three-hour trip straight to the field in the morning and the three-hour trip straight home at night worth it.

Beyond that, the Cubs made some notable roster moves in the week, and I wanted to take a bit of a closer look at them. And in addition, a Rays pitcher nearly accomplished a feat that no pitcher in the long history of the Cubs ever has, and it was pretty fascinating to take a closer look at the time a Cubs pitcher came oh-so-close to doing it.

I'll get into more of that below, so let's go. Here are your Monday morning Cubs thoughts.

Happy Monday, folks!

We're now going into the first full week since the trade deadline, and I don't know that we have any clearer picture of where the Cubs go from here. A couple players who were expected to be traded weren't, and there was at least one deal that caught everyone off guard.

Compared to 2021, this year's deadline wasn't what everyone was expecting, but now that six days have passed, there's been more than enough time for everyone to sit back and really evaluate how it all went down. And with just two months remaining in the season, the focus shifts to how the the rest of the year goes for the Cubs, in both the major and minor league levels.

You've got thoughts, I've got thoughts. So let's get right into it. Here are the latest Monday morning Cubs thoughts, post-deadline edition.

It's a special Monday morning in the baseball calendar, folks.

The Cubs have no games left to play before the trade deadline at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Right now, at 7 a.m. on Monday, the only big-league deal the Cubs have made is trading Chris Martin to the Dodgers on Saturday. Everyone else, as of this moment, are still members of the Chicago Cubs.

The reality is, though, that there are a few who'll likely be dealt elsewhere in the next 34 hours. The Cubs are sellers, and they have some trade pieces — from veterans on cheap deals to fan favorites — that could net them prospects of use. That's just where the team is at this point in the rebuild.

But we'll have much more on that this week. I'll be in St. Louis for the trade deadline and its aftermath, so CHGO will have a lot of content to come. Until then, I've got some thoughts on the Cubs and what's ahead for them over the next two days. So without further ado, here are my Monday morning thoughts, the day-before-the-deadline edition.

Happy post-All-Star break Monday, everyone!

The Cubs took all three games in Philadelphia to kick off the second half, which means they've never lost after the All-Star break in the CHGO era. That's unreal production from our little media company.

All jokes aside, this is going to be a week to remember on the North Side. After trading away most of the World Series core at the deadline in 2021, it's looking like the Cubs will be doing much of the same over the next eight days. With only two home games against the Pirates between now and the deadline on Aug. 2, that means there might be only two more chances for fans to see some of these players in a Cubs uniform at Wrigley Field again. Maybe you've grown numb to trades after last season, and maybe you haven't. Either way, fans should buckle up for what's going to happen over the next few days.

I've got thoughts on that, of course, but this is going to start with one player who's dominated trade talks since he reportedly hit the market. So without further ado, let's get into it. Here's the "trade deadline SZN" edition of my Monday morning Cubs thoughts.

Happy Monday everyone!

We are now just one week away from the All-Star break, but we got some All-Star news over the weekend that's sure to excite the North Side of Chicago. The Cubs will be sending two players (more on that later) to Los Angeles to play in Midsummer Classic on July 19, meaning they've had more than the required one player from each team every year since Wade Davis was the lone Cubs representative in 2017.

The hope is that trip to LA is a much more pleasant experience in Hollywood than this weekend series against the Dodgers. A four-game sweep is sure to ruin the vibe around any team, but it was especially tough considering the Cubs had just won four straight series and five of their last six.

But I'll get into all of that in a bit. We've got some All-Star news to discuss in this week's Monday morning Cubs thoughts, so let's get right into it.

Good morning and happy fifth of July, everyone.

Because of the holiday, my Monday morning thoughts were postponed a bit, but I wanted to make sure I still gave all of y'all something to read to kick off the week. This is only for this week, and I'll be right back with my Monday morning post six days from now.

The Cubs had an exciting week themselves, winning series against the Reds and the Red Sox and nearly taking one from the Brewers in a 10-inning loss on Monday. We can talk all we want about how the wins don't ultimately matter and it's the development that does, but developing is always going to be sweeter when it comes alongside a win. The Cubs haven't lost a series since the four-game clunker in Pittsburgh, and a lot of that has to do with the performances of some of the guys who might have really exciting futures in Chicago.

And of course, an electric moment from their big offseason signing didn't hurt, either. Despite the loss in the series opener, what Seiya Suzuki did in the top of the ninth was probably the biggest shot of adrenaline the Cubs fanbase has had in a little bit.

With that said, I might as well just get right into it now. Here you go folks, the post-Fourth of July, Tuesday edition of my morning Cubs thoughts.

Hello, hello. We're back again on another Monday morning.

The Cubs just got done taking two of three games in St. Louis, which was a good change of pace after they dropped three of four in Pittsburgh. We're now just three days away from July and 36 days away from the trade deadline, so we're about to see the start of trade season and the chaos that comes with it. The Cubs are 17 games under .500, so it would take a lot for this team to be anything other than sellers leading up to the deadline on Aug. 2.

The national speculation on Cubs trade candidates certainly picked up recently, and there's more than a few players who could be wearing jerseys on Aug. 3. That, along with the happenings from the Cubs' seven games this week, gave me plenty to think about. So without further ado, here's the June 27 edition of my Monday morning Cubs thoughts.
