Happy Monday, friends.

What a week (and, really, what a month) it was. There's a whole lot to get into this Monday, and of course, I'll be starting things off with the Field of Dreams game. That was an awesome event that made three-hour trip straight to the field in the morning and the three-hour trip straight home at night worth it.

Beyond that, the Cubs made some notable roster moves in the week, and I wanted to take a bit of a closer look at them. And in addition, a Rays pitcher nearly accomplished a feat that no pitcher in the long history of the Cubs ever has, and it was pretty fascinating to take a closer look at the time a Cubs pitcher came oh-so-close to doing it.

I'll get into more of that below, so let's go. Here are your Monday morning Cubs thoughts.

DYERSVILLE, Iowa — Looking out from the stands behind home plate of the roughly 8,000-seat stadium in the small town of Dyersville, you’ll see a view unlike any other in Major League Baseball. If you look just outside the actual ballpark, you’ll see a video board in left field, a barn-like structure that holds the cameras used to capture views of the park from the outfield in center, and a manual scoreboard in right. Look beyond the right-field fence, and you’ll see the farmhouse and baseball diamond used in the filming of the titular 1989 movie. And if you gaze over beyond the left and center-field fences… well, you’ll see corn. Lots and lots of corn. So much corn, in…

The Cubs took on the Reds in the 2nd annual Field of Dreams Game. The Cubs offense was red-hot immediately upon emerging from the cornfield, jumping out to a three run lead in the first. The Reds closed the gap, scoring two in the seventh, but the Cubs were able to hold on to secure a 4-2 win. Happy Monday, folks!

We're now going into the first full week since the trade deadline, and I don't know that we have any clearer picture of where the Cubs go from here. A couple players who were expected to be traded weren't, and there was at least one deal that caught everyone off guard.

Compared to 2021, this year's deadline wasn't what everyone was expecting, but now that six days have passed, there's been more than enough time for everyone to sit back and really evaluate how it all went down. And with just two months remaining in the season, the focus shifts to how the the rest of the year goes for the Cubs, in both the major and minor league levels.

You've got thoughts, I've got thoughts. So let's get right into it. Here are the latest Monday morning Cubs thoughts, post-deadline edition.
