Sure, the Cubs won four straight series heading into this past weekend, but it didn't do a whole lot to make their record look better.
Now, after dropping six straight, they sit 20 games under .500, and another trade deadline sell off makes it very likely things will only get worse.
The Cubs have fallen to 18 games under .500 in 2022 and are in position to be sellers during trade deadline season.
Plenty of names have cropped up as potential trade candidates, and it's worth taking a look at where some of them stand as July approaches.
After the Chicago Cubs offense exploded for five runs in the 8th inning to take a late lead, David Robertson and Scott Effross couldn’t lock down the Pirates, who won it in 10 innings. The Cubs are 14 games into their season, and David Ross still hasn't named anyone on the team the closer.
That's OK. Looking at how he's deployed his relievers, Ross doesn't need to give anybody a specific role for us to start getting a clearer picture of the bullpen's makeup.
Hey, Chicago, what do ya say? We’ve gotta figure out who the Cubs will bring with them to Opening Day. Well folks, it’s a cold April 1 and people are getting pranked all over for April Fools’ Day, but here at the CHGO office, we’re preparing for a completely different holiday coming in just six days. The long wait is…
