LAKE FOREST – Matt Eberflus’ Wednesday morning press conference didn’t just provide clarity on Justin Fields but also on Lucas Patrick. It seemingly came out of left field, but Eberflus announced Patrick’s 2022 season is officially over. “I didn’t announce this before because he was still on IR (but) he actually had surgery a couple weeks ago and he will not be back with us this year,” Eberflus said. “You guys know he had the toe injury and we ended up surgically repairing that.” The Bears signed Patrick to a two-year, $8 million contract this past offseason to play center, but a right hand injury in July prohibited him from playing the position to begin the season. Instead, Patrick played…

On the first play of the Bears’ final offensive drive against the Falcons, Justin Fields was hit by Dee Alford as he was trying to get out of bounds. Fields immediately grabbed his left shoulder and was in clear pain. The following day, several reports emerged about Fields and the exact injury he sustained in the 27-24 loss to the Falcons. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first to report that Fields “suffered a left shoulder dislocation,” but new reports are pushing back on that statement. “Justin Fields, day to day with a left shoulder injury, but I’m told is not a dislocated shoulder,” Adam Schefter said on the Monday Night Football broadcast. Michael Risher — who personally works with Fields and…

ATLANTA — With just over 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter, Cole Kmet did something that isn’t normal. After the Bears and Falcons scored touchdowns on their opening possessions, the two teams forced punts on the next four drives. Then on first-and-10 from the Chicago 49-yard line, Kmet got his first target of the game. Kmet, who lined up just right of Riley Reiff, ran a vertical route on the right numbers. Linebacker Rashaan Evans was in front of the Kmet and cornerback A.J. Terrell came over just as the ball was starting to come down. The 6-foot-6, 260-pound tight end leaped off his right foot and reached out with his right hand. Just as the ball stuck to Kmet’s…

LAKE FOREST — If Trestan Ebner gets a one-on-one opportunity with a defender in the open field, he has options for how he will approach the play.  “It really depends on my surroundings, you know, if there is a lot of people coming around me, I’m going to try to run em over,” Ebner said. “If I feel like I can make a move and gain more yards, then I’m definitely going to make somebody miss. I prefer doing that.” The rookie running back may just get that opportunity because the Bears will be without one of their top offensive players for the next four games. In the 31-30 loss to the Lions, Khalil Herbert suffered a hip injury on…

These last five weeks have made one thing clear. Justin Fields is the best runner at the quarterback position in the National Football League. Now, let’s not confuse that statement with him being simply a running quarterback. Fields is far from being a one-dimensional player. But as a runner, he has been dominating. His 749 rushing yards is sixth-most in the NFL, and Fields’ 555 rushing yards over the last five games is the most by a quarterback in the Super Bowl era. Fields is different. There is no question about that. However, Fields’ dominance on the ground has brought into question his overall production in the passing game. Even though he has thrown for eight touchdowns compared to two…

How in the world are we all digesting a Bears loss to the Detroit Lions? Didn’t the Bears lead 24-10 heading into the 4th quarter? Didn’t Justin Fields have a memorable run in that 4th quarter? Wasn’t it 2020 the last time Detroit won a road game? Alas, let us get to the grades for the 3-7 Chicago Bears. Quarterback A- Justin Fields you made Bears fan delirious again with a 67-yard run to the end zone to put the Bears up 30-24. Fields had the longest QB run in Bears history last week versus Miami. He topped it one week later by six yards. I guess 73 yards is on tap next week at Atlanta. Fields had 167 yards…
