The Chicago Blackhawks took part in a historic night in Salt Lake City as they helped welcome the Utah Hockey Club into the National Hockey League. The Blackhawks were looking to shake off a subpar preseason that saw them go 1-5-1 and play poorly on nights when most of their regulars were playing.
With a jazzed-up building (no pun intended), the Blackhawks hoped to get through the first 10 minutes of the period unscathed. Unfortunately, Dylan Guenther scored the first goal in Utah history at the 4:56 mark of the opening frame on only their second shot on net. Their third shot on goal went in, too, as Clayton Keller beat Petr Mrazek after an awful clearing attempt by Craig Smith.
