Matt Shaw’s path to being the Cubs’ third baseman is wide open

The runway to being the starting third baseman of the Chicago Cubs couldn’t be more wide or more clear than it is for Matt Shaw right now.
A couple of months ago, he had a number of players in his way, but after Isaac Paredes was traded and the Cubs cut ties with Patrick Wisdom and Nick Madrigal, there is little standing in Shaw’s way. Check the Cubs’ depth chart, and the only person listed at third base is Vidal Brujan, acquired from the Marlins for Matt Mervis just a few weeks ago after he was designated for assignment by Miami.
