Winter 2021. The abbreviated 2020-21 season is about to begin. The Chicago Blackhawks and former general manager Stan Bowman have committed to a "youth movement", aimed toward allowing younger players to take roles in the NHL, shifting focus to building the future without declaring a full-blown rebuild.
A 21-year-old Philipp Kurashev, 22-year-old Ian Mitchell, 23-year-old Dylan Strome, 22-year-old Brandon Hagen, 20-year-old Kirby Dach, and 20-year-old Adam Boqvist headline said "youth movement" with eyes toward increased playing time, and long leashes to grow into secure roles in the pros.
