Khari Blasingame’s selflessness represents who he is on and off the field

Even though the Bears lost their seventh-straight game to the Packers last Sunday night, there were some positives at Lambeau Field. 

The running game would be at the top of that list. The Bears finished with 180 total rushing yards on 27 carries. Khari Blasingame didn’t have a single one of those yards, but the fullback played a vital role in the offense’s success on the ground. 

And just like the position he plays, which involves him sacrificing his body, running at defensive linemen and linebackers that may be in the rushing lane, Blasingame won’t take much credit for Sunday night’s performance. 

“I felt like those guys were running hard, D-Mo, Khalil,” Blasingame said. “Great play calls and, you know, they worked out for us. That’s all I try to do, my job.”

And he definitely did his job against the Packers, but for some reason offensive coordinator Luke Getsy went away from utilizing 21 personnel after the first drive of the game and didn’t come back to it until late in the third quarter. 

“I don’t have any opinion on what is supposed to be called,” Blasingame said. “That’s above my paygrade. I would like to do what I’m asked to do and do my job.”

And his mindset matches perfectly with where Blasingame is in his life. Last Friday, two days before the Sunday night matchup with the Packers, Khari and his wife, Miaya, welcomed their daughter to the world, Jordyn Israel Blasingame.

“It puts everything in its place,” Blasingame said. “Yes my job is important, still very important. Still my job and I want to do great, but it’s just one of those things. Definitely perspective.”

Whether it’s on the football field or at home with his new daughter, Blasingame will have to put others before himself, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“It’s a role man. I’m grateful and blessed to be here and I just want to do the best that I can do in my role,” Blasingame said. “I’m excited to help these guys do the best they can do. Get they bread you know what I mean. That’s my goal to help them be the best they can be. Just do the best that I can do.”
