Chicago Bears fans lost it when they found out that Justin Fields wasn’t following the team on Instagram on Monday night.

Of course, many people overreacted, speculating that Fields was done with the Bears.

Well, the Bears’ quarterback shed light on the situation on Wednesday afternoon during his appearance on The St. Brown Bros Podcast on the 33rd Team. The podcast is hosted by Equanimeous St. Brown and his younger brother Amon-Ra St. Brown.

“I’m glad we talkin about it because why do people take social media so serious?,” Fields said. “I still mess with the Bears. I’m just trying to take a little break. I unfollowed the Bears and the NFL. I’m not just trying to have football on my timeline. I know y’all mess with a girl, EQ especially you, just because you don’t follow the girl on IG don’t mean you not messin with em.”

There you have it ladies and gentlemen. Not many people can relate with what it’s like being an NFL quarterback, but his logic on why he unfollowed the Bears and NFL is pretty relatable.

All the speculation and noise surrounding Fields will only intensify with the NFL Scouting Combine coming up next week in Indianapolis. So, Fields — who isn’t normally on social media — did what he could to ensure that he doesn’t hear all the rumors surrounding his future with the Bears.

Amon-Ra also asked Fields if he wanted to stay in Chicago.

“Of course I want to stay,” Fields said. “To be honest, bruh, with all the talk … I can’t see myself playing in another place, but I know how the league is … If it was up to me, I would want to stay in Chicago. I love the city. The city’s lit. The fans are great and the people.

“(But) It’s a business. I ain’t got no control over it, so whatever happens, happens. I feel like the biggest thing with all this going on I just want it to be over. Let me know if I’m getting traded, let me know if I’m staying.”

Fields also went on to say that during the offseason he enjoys watching film. The Bears have almost an entirely new offensive staff with Shane Waldron now as the offensive coordinator.

Of course, Fields can begin watching how the Seahawks offense operated under Waldron the past three seasons, but it could all be for nothing if Fields is traded to another team.

Like a lot of people, Fields just wants some certainty on his job status heading into the 2024 NFL season.

While social media has been in a constant war on whether the Bears will keep Fields or draft USC rookie Caleb Williams since the 2023 season ended, Fields said he has been in Florida working out and has some vacations lined up in Amsterdam and Milan — which will be the first time Fields has been to Europe.

The 2024 NFL Draft is officially 64 days away. Maybe it would be good idea if everyone just took Fields’ approach and spend a little less time on social media and take a much-needed break.
