After trading Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey, straight up, a week before the 2024 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls pivoted off their core for the first time in three years, opting for experienced youth with whom they could move into their next generation.
Caruso, 30, an all-world defender at the end of his bargain contract, likely did not figure into the future plans for a team that repeatedly topped out as mediocre. Though the Bulls could have traded him for more had they done so sooner, Caruso's value clearly declined ahead of the last season of his contract, and the Bulls were right to swap him out for a forward-looking asset.
