The Chicago Bears have lost five of their last six games, a stretch that continued with Sunday’s 35-32 loss to the Miami Dolphins at Soldier Field.
But Justin Fields continues to be special.
The Bears second-year quarterback made history against Dolphins, rushing for 178 yards and setting a regular season record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a regular season game. He is also the first QB in NFL history to throw for three touchdowns and rush for more than 140 yards in the same game.
Fields made plays all afternoon with both his arm and legs, but the defense could not stop the potent Dolphins offense and it cost them in the end.
The Bears are now 3-6 as they prepare to host the Lions next weekend.

What. A. Game. At least you can’t accuse the Bears of being boring. Justin Fields had his official coming out party, but didn’t get enough help. Count that as another loss ending on a missed play by a wide receiver. The referees didn’t help. Patience will be needed, Bears fans. They have their quarterback. It will get better.

Sunday at Soldier Field can only be summed up in one way: a shootout. That’s exactly what I was envisioning for this matchup, and the Bears and Dolphins didn’t disappoint. Tua Tagovailoa had all day to pick apart the Bears defense, throwing for 302 yards and 3 touchdowns. Justin Fields on the other hand accumulated 301 total yards and three touchdowns (two passing and one rushing). The Bears’ defense may be non-existent, but Justin Fields and the offense have proven the last three games that Chicago can and will put up points. That makes the Bears exciting to watch for the remainder of the season.

You have to hand it to the Bears, they just went toe-to-toe with one of the most prolific offenses in the league. Justin Fields is now the NFL record holder for the most rushing yards by a QB in a regular season game. The kid is special. He’s that dude. Coke Kmet becoming a red zone threat is another exciting development. Wish Claypool had a bigger impact in this game, but that will come in time. Congrats, Fields.

It’s a shame that officiating took away the only thing — a mark in the win column — that was missing from Justin Fields’ banner day. The loss sucks, but much brighter days are ahead.
