What a win!

Faced with the possibility of their season hitting the skids, Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears instead looked strong with a confident 33-14 road win over the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football!

Here are our instant reactions to the big Monday night win in New England …

Maybe Bill Belichick was onto something when he spent seven minutes praising this Bears team. The Bears simply dominated in every phase, and Matt Eberflus out-coached Belichick. Credit Eberflus, Luke Getsy and Alan Williams for making adjustments during the mini-bye. Getsy’s plan to get Fields going on designed runs was huge. And Fields played well in the passing game too. Time will tell how significant of a win this will be for Fields, but it’s possible it’s a turning point in his career.

On a night when Bill Belichick could’ve surpassed George Halas for the second-most all-time wins, Matt Eberflus said not tonight. The current Bears coach prevented that historic moment from happening at Gillette Stadium, and his quarterback Justin Fields played a big role in the 33-14 victory over the Patriots. The Bears’ defense forced four turnovers and a quarterback change. Chicago improved to 3-4 on the season and ended its three-game losing streak with the primetime win.

Where has this Bears team been? If this is the result of some reflection during the mini-bye, then sign me up for more, please. This is by far the best Justin Fields and the offense has looked. Kudos to Luke Getsy, too, who called his best game by far. After going down 10 points once Zappe entered the game, the Bears said “enough” and went on an absolute tear. Consecutive scoring drives? Yup. Takeaways? Yup. Competent special teams play? You better believe it.  It’s easy to feel good about the Bears after this game, but it’s even easier to rally behind Fields after his QB1-like performance. Time to ride this momentum into Dallas as they’ll need it to take down the Cowboys next week.

I had a good feeling the Bears would win and they proved that right. Justin Fields looked at comfortable and confident as he has EVER looked in a Bears uniform. When he had time he made good throws and read the field well. He makes multiple escapes from the pocket that leaves you in shock and awe. Shoutout to Luke Getsy for a great game. Designed runs, WR screens for TDs, 11 for 17 on 3rd down. The defense has turned a corner too the last 2 weeks. Lead by their secondary. Credit to Eberflus/Alan Williams and company for stemming the tide when Bailey Zappe came in and changed momentum. The most complete win we’ve seen from the Bears in a LOOOOONG time and it comes at New England! What?!?!

There was never a doubt. The Chicago Bears were not going to let Bill Belichick pass Papa Bear George Halas on their watch. Give credit to the Bears coaching staff who unleashed the legs of Justin Fields along with some quick-hitting shorts routes that have been missing. Fields showed progress once again going through his progressions and picking up tough yards under duress. Justin Jones backed up his talk with a batts ball and fumble recovery. Jaquan Brisker made a sweet pick and also showed his physicality. The 4th quarter was a mere formality in the Bears first comfortable going away win since none of us can remember.

This one is on me! My pregame prediction was that you’d never take a Luke Getsy gameplan over the master Bill Belichick and boy was I proven wrong. I will gladly eat the crow though as the Bears shook off a short blip in the second quarter and put together a dominating performance in prime time to right the season’s ship. It feels good to be on this side of things for once.
