Saturday night, the Chicago Blackhawks traded defenseman Seth Jones and a 2026 fourth-round pick to the Florida Panthers for goaltender Spencer Knight and a conditional 2026 first-round pick. Chicago also retains ~25% ($2.5 million) of Jones' contract for the next five seasons.
This trade needed to happen by the beginning of next season. Jones had been growing frustrated over the last few weeks and decided to take his grievances public to expedite a trade. It worked, and now Jones will play for the defending Stanley Cup Champions.
I had concerns that by going public, Jones would put Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson in a weakened spot to make a deal, and Davidson acknowledged as much in a pregame...
