I get that Hoyer wants to replenish the farm. But we talk about how we want to be like the Dodgers, who have great farm system and great FA signings. You know what they also do? Extend good players. We need to extend Willson if we want to be a sustainable, successful baseball club.

I hear you. That’s part of what I laid out in the second half of the article, the reasons why resigning would make sense. But there’s also the argument that to get to where the Dodgers have been for so long, the farm system needs to be built to the top of the league, and then once those players move to the big leagues, THEY are the ones that’ll need to be extended while the team continues to replenish the talent in the minors. Definitely an easier process said than done, but if Jed thinks that’s the way to get to the Dodgers’ level, that’s the route he’s going to go.
