As the Cubs milled about on the field and around the dugout Wednesday morning preparing for the Crosstown season finale with the White Sox, a new figure emerged on the third base side.
He came with an entourage of family, friends and agents and sported a unique white-pinstriped Cubs jersey — with the number 65 and the name “Townsend” emblazoned on the back.
Cade Townsend — the Cubs’ first-round pick (23rd overall) in this summer’s draft — got his first taste of “The Friendly Confines” as a member of the organization.
And he wasted no time showing his character, explaining his unique ties to Chicago, how he’s already getting better — and why he was adamant about choosing such an odd number.
