Following an 8-16-2 start to the 2024-25 season that has them in last place in the NHL and after finishing the past two seasons third-to-last and second-to-last in the standings, the Chicago Blackhawks fired head coach Luke Richardson on Thursday afternoon. Richardson was the head coach for just over two full seasons after being hired by GM Kyle Davidson to lead the rebuild from behind the bench in June of 2022.
While the results of his first two seasons were not the focus for a team that was actively trying to improve their draft position and subsequently draft Connor Bedard first overall in 2023, the results this season started to matter for Richardson as head coach.
The results were bad....
