What’s up, Sox fans?
There were some mixed signals coming from the Chicago White Sox’ front office this past week, as the team made a couple curious moves ahead of what’s expected to be a trade-deadline selloff and a focus on the future over the final two months of the regular season.
Martín Maldonado didn’t exactly endear himself to White Sox fans, who expected more than a .119 batting average and .174 on-base percentage from the guy who was signed in the offseason to be the team’s No. 1 catcher. Even for the routinely light-hitting veteran, those were ugly numbers, and he didn’t do well, statistically, on the defensive side, either, leading some to wonder what exactly it was he did here.
