Though the World Series begins in two days, the Chicago Cubs' offseason began three weeks ago. Now, we have our first big piece of player news that's left a bit of a murky immediate future for a former Gold Glover.
Monday afternoon, the Cubs announced that Nico Hoerner, who just completed the first year of the three-year, $35 million extension he signed just before Opening Day 2023, underwent right flexor tendon surgery on Oct. 11.
Dr. Keith Meister performed the procedure, the team said, but no other details or a timeline was provided. Hoerner's offseason will be focused on rehabbing after the procedure, and it should be some time before the Cubs determine his next steps.
