DALLAS — After a rough first few months of the season at the plate, Dansby Swanson turned things around.
Whereas before the All-Star break, Swanson had .212 with a 79 wRC+, in 62 games (256 plate appearances) after the break, he hit .281 and posted a 124 wRC+. His defense remained at an elite level for much of the year, but this was the improvement with the bat everyone needed to see heading into the offseason.
But all the while, Swanson had been dealing with a sports hernia — and apparently, he didn't wholly let everyone in on it. That made his revelation that he wanted to see a specialist and address the issue at the conclusion of the season a bit of a surprise.
