For the first time in 77 years, the Chicago Bears are on the clock with the first pick in the NFL draft.
Sunday’s 29-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings coupled with the Houston Texans’ miracle 32-31 win over the Indianapolis Colts gives the Bears the No. 1 pick in next April’s draft.
The Bears haven’t picked No. 1 since 1946 when they selected halfback Bob Fenimore out of Oklahoma A&M. Fenimore played only one injury-addled season with the Bears and became an insurance salesman in Oklahoma.
Michigan halfback Tom Harmon is the team’s only other No. 1 overall pick, but never played for the Bears after being the top pick in the 1940 draft.
