Dominique Robinson is entering his first year in the NFL after being drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round of the 2022 draft.

After playing wide receiver in his first couple of years in college, the Miami of Ohio product has made the transition to defense and looks the part of a prime “diamond in the rough” candidate for the Bears at defensive end.

Robinson’s best outing during his senior season came against Bowling Green State where he notched four total tackles, including two sacks.

Biggest Question

How much of Robinson’s potential can the Chicago Bears tap into in Year 1?

With only two years of experience on defense in the MAC, Robinson is every bit raw heading into his debut season. He demonstrated flashes throughout last season and at the Senior Bowl where he looked like a natural.

But the Bears will need to work with Robinson in order for him to develop into the pass-rusher they envision because what makes Robinson different than his peers is his elite athletic ability.

Can the Bears coach him up quick enough to make an impact as a rookie?

Coach Matt Eberflus has a track record of getting the most out of his players. He also has been proven at developing talent.

Robinson has sky-high potential — and with Robert Quinn, Al-Quadin Muhammad and Trevis Gipson on the roster — there’s no pressure to be an immediate impact player.

Although, if Robinson is able to come out of the gate hot as a rookie, the Bears’ defense gets better. Teams can’t have too many pass rushers to rotate between.

2022 Outlook

Robinson won’t be a Day 1 starter for the Bears. He’ll most likely be the second player off the bench as a part of a rotation at defensive end behind Quinn, Muhammad, Gipson and potentially Jeremiah Attaochu.

Despite the projected limited role as a rookie, Robinson should flourish as a pass-rush specialist. If he makes the most of his opportunities, Robinson could earn more playing time later in the season.

Prediction: Rotational defensive end and situational pass-rush specialist.

Stats: 1.5 Sacks, 5 Tackles, 2 TFL.
