The Chicago Blackhawks played a tightly-contested game versus the Detroit Red Wings on a night that also saw the Hawks retire Chris Chelios’ No. 7 jersey. It was a game full of headlines as Patrick Kane also made his return to the United Center for the first time since being traded last season.
Trailing 1-0 in the 1st period, Mackenzie Entwistle knotted things up with his third goal of the season. Later that period, Nick Foligno put the Hawks in front on a deflection of a Connor Bedard shot. That score held until late in the 3rd period when the Red Wings tied it on a tight-angle shot that deflected in off of Petr Mrazek. The game went to overtime. In what could only be called fitting, Patrick Kane scored the game-winner in OT on a breakaway to win it for the Red Wings.
