Bulls rookies Caleb Wilson, Dailyn Swain and Tobe Awaka made their respective debut’s on Wednesday’s preseason opener, a 124-117 win over the Phoenix Suns. Jaylin Sellers (low back soreness) did not play.
We expect them to experience plenty of ups and downs throughout the course of their rookie campaigns, but they’ll also have plenty of runway to play through mistakes while they learn to execute within Tiago Splitter’s schemes.
Caleb Wilson
At first, Wilson looked both rushed and passive. Floating in and out of space, forcing his way into the action and getting tagged on a few avoidable foul calls, Wilson struggled in his first half of preseason action, scoring nine points while shooting just 3-of-10 from the field.
Assigned the Dillon Brooks matchup, Wilson was welcomed to the NBA by picking up five fouls in his first 15 minutes of action.
“It was fun, honestly,” Wilson said. “I made some mistakes, but I expected to make them. That was fun. I ain’t gonna lie. For me, for that to be my first NBA opponent, it was cool. I learned a lot. Learned how to be more active and ready off the ball. [He] got to duck in on me and just learn how to be physical.”
