Blackhawks forward and three-time Stanley Cup Champion Pat Maroon has announced his plans to retire after the 2024-25 NHL season. In an emotional pregame interview with his close friend Darren Pang on CHSN, Maroon said, “It’s going to be an emotional night for me tonight. It’s tough. Sometimes, you gotta give up everything you know and everything you dreamed of your whole life. I just know it’s time for me and it’s time for my family to go start a new chapter in our lives. This is all I know, Panger. It’s tough.”
This season in Chicago, Maroon has appeared in 60 games, scoring four goals and 12 assists. He’s also mentored several young players on the team, including Lukas Reichel, who joined him and his family in St. Louis over the holiday break.
Maroon has played 840 NHL games, recording 125 goals and 195 assists. His 96 fights are the most in the NHL since 2012 (his rookie year). In 2021, he became the first player in NHL history to win three consecutive Stanley Cups (2019 with St. Louis, 2020 and 2021 with the Lightning) since several members of the Islanders accomplished the feat over the span of the 1980-1983 seasons.
