Kevin Korchinski and the Chicago Blackhawks are at a serious crossroads. The young defenseman has clearly fallen out of favor with the organization, but having the 22-year-old sit night after night isn’t helping either side. A resolution has to be made; the sooner, the better.
After playing well in the preseason, Korchinski has played only one game this season. He drew in against the Buffalo Sabers on Oct. 3 when Bowen Byram was with his wife for the birth of their twins. His lone chance to make an impression didn’t go well. In 9:49 of 5-on-5 ice time, the Blackhawks allowed 18 shot attempts while generating only seven. They were outshot 8-3, outchanced 13-4, and outscored 2-0 with Korchinski on the ice.
Korchinski is in that weird spot former Blackhawks forward Lukas Reichel found himself in. He’s not getting much opportunity to succeed, but he’s also not giving many reasons to earn more ice time.
