Blackhawks Sign Landon Slaggert to Two-Year Deal

That didn’t take long.

Following a loss to Michigan on Saturday night in the Big Ten Tournament to signal the end of his Senior season at Notre Dame, Chicago Blackhawks 2020 third-round pick Landon Slaggert signed a two-year deal with the club coming with a $912,500 AAV cap hit and will run through the 2024-25 season.

Slaggert closed his Senior season as the leading goal-scorer and point-producer for the Irish with NCAA career-highs with 20 goals and 31 points. He also served as the team’s Captain this past season, concluding a four-year college career that saw him play 136 games and total 92 points for Notre Dame. He helped Team USA win a World Junior Championships Gold Medal in 2021 and was selected to the team in 2022 before the tournament was cancelled.

It’s exciting to have another young prospect that the organization has been high on for a long time finally make their way to the professional ranks. Slaggert’s game is predicated on being hard to play against. His forechecking and speed are his top attributes while he also has an ability to facilitate offense and has a willingness to go to the front of the net to score goals. While he isn’t the biggest player on the ice, Slaggert is willing to get to the low areas offensively and go into battles in the corners and at the front of the net.

Turning 22 this June, Slaggert will more than likely play a handful of games with the Blackhawks at the NHL level before making his way to the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL to close the regular season and help them in their Calder Cup Playoff push.
