Chicago Blackhawks (14-25-2, 30 pts) at Detroit Red Wings (18-18-4, 40 pts)
6:00 p.m. CT – Little Caesars Arena
TV: CHSN (Ball/Pang)
Radio: WGN 720 AM (Wiedeman/Murray)
Hot off a win over the Colorado Avalanche, the Chicago Blackhawks head to Detroit for the first of back-to-back games on the road against the Red Wings and then at home tomorrow against the Edmonton Oilers. Chicago has won two of their last three games since the Winter Classic, wins over Montreal and Colorado, and have a 14-25-2 record at the halfway mark of the season, on pace for 60 points in the standings, which would be an improvement over their 52 points last year.
The Red Wings have won six of their last ten games, taking a five-game winning streak into tonight’s game. Detroit is four points out of a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and are 5-1-0 in six games under Todd McLellan since he was hired on December 27.
Connor Bedard comes into the game tonight on a career-long eight-game point streak with 11 points over those eight games. Since Anders Sorensen took over as interim head coach of the Blackhawks, Bedard has 18 points in 15 games. He is two points shy of 100 for his career (98 in 109 NHL games).
Tyler Bertuzzi brings a four-game point streak into the game tonight, having taken the lead-lead in goals in his recent stretch of play with 14 on the season. Bertuzzi is facing one of his former teams in Detroit, where he was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft and spent his first seven NHL seasons.
Speaking of playing against former teams, Patrick Kane faces the Blackhawks again as a member of the Red Wings. In his previous two meetings between Detroit and Chicago as part of the Red Wings, Kane has a goal and an assist, both coming in his return to the United Center last season when he scored the overtime-winner on Chris Chelios’ jersey retirement night. Who could forget?
