When Seth Jones was traded to the Blackhawks in July of 2021, he was joining a team that, at least in his mind, would contend for a few more seasons. The Hawks acquired goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury a few days after the deal. From all appearances, it appeared the team was doing its best to keep the contention window open.
