General manager Ryan Poles made an atypical mid-season splash when he traded three draft picks – including the Bears’ 2027 and 2028 first-round picks – for All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons.
But an all-in deal doesn’t mean Poles subscribes to the “F— them picks” strategy.
“We gotta be very smart about how we move forward when you make a deal like that,” Poles said at Halas Hall. “I don’t think we’re going to just start (trading draft picks), it’s kind of why I said we’re not just going to throw picks all over the place right now. We want to be smart about it. Obviously, we’re going to listen and see if something makes sense or not. But I like to think that whole process will slow down just a little bit.”
Then the Bears went on the road in Seattle and dismantled the reigning Super Bowl champions on Monday Night Football. And Simmons – in his Bears debut – made his presence felt early and often with six tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss.
Here’s the question: Should Monday’s 34-17 win against the Seahawks – and Simmons’ immediate impact – make the Bears more aggressive before the Nov. 10 trade deadline?
