SEATTLE — With game balls distributed to running back D’Andre Swift, defensive end Austin Booker and, of course, defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, Bears coach Ben Johnson had one more message for everyone.
That’s everyone in the Bears’ victorious, jubilant locker room.
And everyone who would later see the video of his “Good, better, best” in Seattle.
“We didn’t come here to make a statement, man,” Johnson told his team. “We came here to build something. Alright? And we’re just getting started.”
And then said it again.
“We’re just getting started,” he said.
You got that?
The Bears’ 34-17 throttling of the Seahawks – the reigning Super Bowl champions – wasn’t a statement win at Lumen Field on Monday Night Football. This prime time matchup — just like last week against the New England Patriots, the defending AFC champions — wasn’t a measuring stick.
Under Johnson, the Bears are here to break that freakin’ stick.
