Hard to criticize an offense when they put up 31 points plus a pick 6 from their defense but I think you’re giving Caleb too much credit. He played well but not great, in my opinion. I don’t think you can say any QB was great when he only completed less than 60% of his passes. I don’t think you can say he played great when he has trouble marching his team down the field in the first half unless the running game is doing it for him. He made some incredible throws throughout the game but he also missed a few fairly easy ones that would have extended drives and kept the defense off the field.
The Bears offense has had similar problems all year but have had a lot of miraculous plays that have overcome their deficiencies all season and you cannot get away with that in playoff games against teams that will either make you pay defensively or beat you offensively, like the 49ers did last night.
We are not very good in the deep red zone and I won’t put all of that on Caleb. I think Ben’s play calling in that part of the field all year has been questionable, some of his personnel choices down there are questionable, and like last night, he has had some issues with getting the plays in on time when they’re inside the 5 yard line.
This might be construed as criticism but I look at it more like what the first time HC, the second year QB, and a bunch of guys who have never been in playoff situations have to improve on to reach the next level. Almost every really good team has to take these steps so whatever happens between now and February, this has been a huge leap for the organization and hopefully, they make the necessary adjustments going forward.

One seed with a bye would’ve been HUGE. There are no guarantees about next year, just ask the Lions. Shame they missed this opportunity.

Adam, became a DieHard because of your journalistic coverage of the Bears. Big Ben Johnson fan here, no better answer today than his goal to win Sunday against Detroit. After wild card weekend, it will be the NFC West teams plus the Bears competing to go to SuperBowl. Can’t wait. Go Bears!
