I think this came down to a plug-and-play Safety who will be on the field for every defensive snap, vs. the sixth or seventh rated Edge or lower-rate DT who will rotate. I was eyeing Lomu or Faulk here but I like this pick a lot.

Sounds like a great pick and a great fit for what Ben and DA are looking for; frankly, I’m surprised he was still there, after listening to all the pre-draft coverage / mock drafts / etc, I figured he’d be gone in the late teens. Fills an obvious glaring need, too, which is nice when that lines up with who is the best available on their board. I’ll be interested to see if they go for some help in the trenches now on day two…

One thing I appreciate about this front office is they don’t seem to overthink the early round picks. The Rams, Vikings, and maybe the Browns (Concepcion) may have overthought their picks to the Bears’ benefit.
