LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Caleb Williams had to get the ball into the end zone. The situation demanded it in the final period of practice on Tuesday. 

The offense trailed 28-23 in an end-of-game situation and had overcome consecutive false starts to reach the 22-yard line with 3.2 seconds remaining. 

This was their final shot.

Linebacker Devin Bush – one of the Bears’ top additions this offseason – wasn’t here for it, though. In fact, he’s here to change those situations for the defense. 

And he did exactly that.

Williams fired a ball into traffic to receiver Luther Burden III in the end zone. Bush ended the play by violently striking Burden. The catch wasn’t made. The defense won.
