Bears 22, Packers 16: The Cardiac Bears strike again, Caleb Williams leads miraculous comeback

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams (18) leaps and throws a pass against the Green Bay Packers during the first quarter at Soldier Field.

CHICAGO — Chaos. The Cardiac Bears.

Down 10 with 2:05 left, the Bears needed a Cairo Santos field goal, a Santos onside kick, and Jahdae Walker’s first career touchdown reception on fourth-and-4 to force overtime.

Then the Bears’ defense came through with a fourth-down stop in overtime before Caleb Williams hit DJ Moore for a 46-yard game-winning strike.

Pandemonium.

Williams finished the day 19-of-34 passing for 250 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. Williams also picked up 30 yards rushing, adding to the Bears’ 150 yards on the ground as a team.

For 57 minutes, the Bears weren’t the better team. From center Drew Dalman’s snap on fourth-and-1 over running back Kyle Monangai’s head to end the Bears’ first drive, to safety Jaquan Brisker’s 15-yard penalty for hitting Packers quarterback Malik Willis after he slid, their mistakes were sloppy and avoidable. But the Bears were undeterred.

Defensive end Austin Booker was flagged twice for roughing the passer. His second penalty knocked Packers quarterback Jordan Love out of the game with a concussion in the second quarter.

In Love’s absence, Malik Willis finished 9-of-11 passing for 121 yards and one touchdown. He added 44 yards on the ground. As a team, the Packers ran for 186 yards on the Bears’ defense.

I have no words. Or at least not enough of them.

Not right now.

Just amazing. Simply amazing.

Cairo Santos all night long. Caleb Williams to Jahdae Walker for a touchdown – and then to DJ Moore for the win.

Just unbelievable.

Sometimes it doesn’t need to make sense.

Outplayed for 57 minutes, it simply didn’t matter to Caleb Williams and the Bears.

Now they’re in the driver’s seat in the NFC North with a chance to clinch a playoff spot on Sunday with a Lions loss.

That was the biggest Bears win I’ve seen in my 15 years covering the team. Insane comeback. Incredible throw by Caleb Williams. And good for DJ Moore, who is finally getting his opportunity to play on a contender and he took advantage of it with the biggest catch of his career.
