Often times, player development is less about adding new skills and more about learning to read the game to know when and how to apply skills.
Ayo Dosunmu, who had his first double-digit scoring month this December since October 2022, has shown meaningful growth as a result of his improved ability to recognize and attack closeouts.
As an off ball player, many of those opportunities come from the initial advantage that DeMar DeRozan, Nikola Vucevic or Coby White create by drawing two to the ball. Once they break down the defense and draw help, Dosunmu can catch and shoot a three, drive or keep the ball moving.
