The Chicago Bears fell to 2-2 on Sunday after another inept offensive performance at MetLife Stadium against the New York Giants.

The Bears just lost a football game on a muffed punt to a team that basically finished the game without a quarterback. That’s brutal. Justin Fields played better, but the offense is a mess. At some point they’re going to have let him play quarterback more than a handful of snaps per game. The defense still hasn’t allowed a touchdown in the second half this season and a competent offense should be able to take advantage of that. Oh, and #BearsSpecialTeams.

There will be a lot of things that irritate coach Matt Eberflus from this 20-12 loss to the Giants. At the top of the list very well could be two mistakes that have been dicing up this Bears defense all season: lack of eye discipline and play action. Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka had Alan Williams’ unit all out of sorts as New York racked up 262 rushing yards on Chicago. Justin Fields and the offense still have a lot to work. Next up is a divisional matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

When you can’t stop the run and fail to punch it in when inside the red zone, you’re not going to win many games. The Bears made some plays, but not the ones that mattered, as they let a winnable game slip through their hands. Just like they settled for field goals, they ultimately settled for a loss.

Justin Fields got… better. But there is still a longgg way to go. Too many missed tackles by the defense and too many missed open receivers. Fields could also use a little more help up front as well as receivers / tight ends catching the football. Eberflus decision to punt with 3 minutes left also a head scratcher.

Disappointing day for the coaches. Took way too long to adjust to the Play action rollout by Daniel Jones and Giants. Bears offense, while made some progress in the passing game, still has a long way to go. Not enough weapons on the outside. Not enough OLine depth especially with injuries. Fields had nice moments and some bad ones too. Onto Minnesota.

Not quite the disappointment of the Packers and Texans games, but still a dispiriting performance from Justin Fields and the offense. This start really shouldn’t come as a surprise given Ryan Poles’ conservative approach to the offseason, but you wonder how we’re supposed to accurately evaluate Fields with the subpar cast around him.
