Best Game of 2021

Gipson’s standout game last season was Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens where he compiled five total pressures, two sacks, three quarterback hurries and four run stops.

Biggest Question

Can Trevis Gipson make another big leap in Year 3?

Gipson was able to make an incredible jump in his second season. He went from not having a sack and only making five tackles in his rookie year to having seven sacks and 39 combined tackles in his sophomore season.

His Pass Rush Grade on PFF was the 10th best in the NFL (87.0) of all EDGE players.

Gipson is going back to a more natural fit as a hand-in-the-dirt rusher in the Bears’ new defensive scheme. This is where Gipson thrived in Tulsa.

Gipson was good at taking down quarterbacks last season. To take another step forward, Gipson needs to make more plays against the run in the backfield. By doing so, he’ll become a more complete player.

If he embraces the new defense and takes to the hard coaching, Gipson could end up as the starting defensive end opposite Robert Quinn Week 1.

Gipson’s arrow continues to point up. He should only continue to get better. Just how big of a jump he’ll be able to take in 2022 is currently unknown.

2022 Outlook

Projecting what Gipson will be able to accomplish in the new defense after a breakout season is an exciting task.

Worst case, he provides similar production to last season.

Best case, Gipson takes another big leap forward and becomes a more dominant and impactful player for the Bears’ defense.

The reality maybe somewhere in between.

Prediction: Starting defensive end this season. It may happen after Week 1.
