GREEN BAY, Wis. – Hours before kickoff, hope arrived for the Bears at Lambeau Field.
It just didn’t fully feel like that at the moment.
But there was quarterback Caleb Williams, hard at work and full of sweat.
He went through different play-action drops and attempted a variety of different passes. He went short and he went deep. He even rolled to his left and threw several of his “Jumpman” passes.
Williams’ workout – an obvious part of his looming return from a pulled right hamstring – ended at 9:27 a.m. At one point, Williams was bent over with hands on his knees, seemingly in exhaustion during it. He then jogged off the field before his Bears teammates filtered out for their own routines.
Hours later, it became very apparent that everything Williams did on the field would become the best thing to happen for the Bears at Lambeau Field.
Because nearly everything that happened after kickoff was ugly, disappointing or just flat-out disheartening.
The Packers pummeled the Bears for a 31-7 victory on Sunday.

I get losing with all the injuries. But I genuinely thought we were beyond being embarrassed by GB, especially a packers team that was struggling. Only down by 7 at half, I expected a close game to the finish. This was too reminiscent of teams past who quit and/or allowed the packers to dominate them. Shame on me for drinking the Kool-Aid.
