The second day of Chicago Blackhawks training camp is when things get a little bit quieter.
There are fewer TV cameras around. There’s more space in the media work room and in the locker room. Players get a little more settled into the routine of skating, working out, and then their favorite part of the job: talking to us in the media.
But what I find the best about getting past the first day is that you get to take a breath from the energy of day one and let a little bit of dust settle into what hopes to be a longer hockey season than the Blackhawks have experienced in nearly a decade.
Top power-play unit takes shape without Connor Bedard
The Blackhawks are expected to have a much improved power-play unit this season with the additions of Bowen Byram, Patrick Kane, and Roman Kantserov to the budding group of young talent that will make up the man-advantage units. Granted, an improvement over finishing 29th in the NHL last season with a 16.9% power-play isn’t a difficult task on paper.
