LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The postseason, overtime and some snow. The entire moment inside Soldier Field felt like it was built for Caleb Williams. 

The Bears defense forced the Los Angeles Rams into a three-and-out to open overtime. And then Williams and the offense went to work in the divisional round. Play after play, the Bears came closer to securing a trip to the NFC Championship. On the eighth play of the Bears’ possession, Williams ran for three yards on fourth-and-1 from their own 47. 

A win felt close – expected, almost.

This is what Williams and the Bears did during the 2025 season. 

But on second-and-8 from the Rams’ 48, safety Kam Curl undercut Williams’ pass to receiver DJ Moore to make a diving interception. A miscue happened at the absolute worst time as the interception quickly turned into a 20-17 loss.

“Yeah, it burns,” Williams told a small group of local reporters earlier this month. “It’s frustrating. It still bothers me today. Every single time the play pops up or the Cole Kmet play pops up, it feels like it was for nothing in that sense.

“Then you change your lens and you figure out that it was meant to be, and that it’s going to do me good, it’s going to do us good for the years to come when we get to those moments again – and we come (out) on the other side and we go get one at the end.”
