

CINCINNATI – When quarterback Caleb Williams stepped to the lectern Thursday inside Paycor Stadium, he wasn’t long removed from his worst period of practice during training camp this year.
And it came on the road in a joint practice against the Cincinnati Bengals.
During the situational full-team period, Williams was “sacked” twice by defensive end Myles Murphy – the second one for a safety – and then intercepted by nickel back Jalen Davis on a throw over the middle.
That was the Bears’ final three plays in practice.
“I got to bring the ball down,” Williams said. “I left it up top too much. Released it too high. Trying to move. Then I got some pressure on the back side and just tried to check it down, get the drive going.”
Instead, the drive – and the day with the Bengals – ended in Cincinnati. Williams also missed two deep balls early in the period during the Bears’ first possession.
It was a sour conclusion to what was an otherwise good day for Williams and the first-team offense. Here are some highlights and details from both sides of the ball:
