LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The protection held up for quarterback Caleb Williams on the second play of the second team period of practice on Thursday – and receiver Kalif Raymond raced past cornerback Tyrique Stevenson.
And just like that, the first real highlight from training camp this year came to be.
Williams hit Raymond in stride for a 54-yard touchdown pass. Stevenson was several steps behind Raymond. And the entire offense – including the reserves who were watching – celebrated.
The days of saying and detailing how the defense is ahead of the offense early in camp appear to be over under coach Ben Johnson. The second day of practice belonged to Williams, Raymond and the offense.
