Here’s my now annual pre-training camp Q&A with CHGO’s Diehards:

Realistic possibility that (Zavion Thomas) plays himself off special teams by year’s end, because of his speed and route tree being more refined (if the correct word) than expected and more important to offensive production. Or does Ben value special teams highly? – BATMAN

In most cases, a player’s emergence on offense (or defense) often leads to a decrease in playing time on special teams. And Johnson has a vision for Thomas. You saw glimpses of it during the offseason program. Thomas played with Caleb Williams. The Bears don’t waste time under Johnson. 

“(Johnson) can put him in multiple places,” assistant director of college scouting Francis St. Paul said during the draft.  “He has some plays in the backfield where he has played running back. You can run fly sweep with him. He’s had multiple ways where teams can get him the ball. Teams are going to have to worry about him when he’s on the field.”
